Welcoming Remarks by NETAPPS2010 Honorary Chair

Distinguished guests, speakers and colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this tiny but serene and beautiful city of Alor Setar, in the northern state of Kedah to attend the Second International Conference on Network Applications, Protocols and Services (NETAPPS2010). NETAPPS2010 is organized some 20 months after NETAPPS2008, which had successfully brought together researchers from the specialty areas of network applications, protocols and services.  Invigorating discussions ensued from both theoretical and practical perspectives. NETAPPS2010 provides opportunities for researchers, academics and experts to meet and exchange innovative ideas, research results, state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice in the aforementioned areas.

As in NETAPPS2008, this conference continues to uphold its conceptual tradition of being a simple, no-frill, value for money and not-for-profit. A simple conference because there is no minister, politician or VVIP invited to formally officiate the opening event, no pomp and lavish spending of the precious time and money. We simply want to optimize the time to enable the sharing of knowledge and innovative ideas. Furthermore, this conference is organized with minimum number of tracks so that participants can focus to on paper presentations in specific topics.

Itís our ambition that NETAPPS will become the premier international conference with specific, niche areas of network applications, protocols and services. In NETAPPS2010, a total of ONLY forty four research articles will be presented by participants from more than 15 countries in Asia Pacific and beyond. To ensure the quality of the conference, the technical program committee had accepted only 41% from the total number of submitted papers. In addition, this yearís conference proceedings are published by the IEEE Conference Publishing Services (USA) and are indexed by IEEE Xplore and Scopus. Selected papers from the conference, after further revisions, will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Computer Science and Information Security (IJCSIS).

NETAPPS2010 has the collaboration of the Internet Society, Malaysian Research and Educational Networks (MYREN), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), ARUBA networks, the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT), National Advanced Center for IPv6 (NAv6), CyberSecurity Malaysia, International Telecomm Union Asia Pacific CoE Node for Rural ICT Development (ITU-UUM) and of the support from 13 Malaysian public and private Universities. I would like to specially take this opportunity to thank MYREN for the generous support in sponsoring thirty fellowships to enable Malaysian networking researchers to participate in and benefit from this conference.

Thank you, have a wonderful conference, and enjoy Alor Setar, Kedah, MALAYSIA!

Welcoming Remarks by NETAPPS2010 General Chair

Distinguished guests, speakers and colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome distinguished delegates and participants to the NETAPPS2010 Conference.

The idea of once living in a digital world has now become more of a reality with the availability of faster and more efficient networks and communication structures. These infrastructures are a result of years of research and development to realize the dream of ubiquitous communication.  At this conference, we seek to catalyze a higher level of international engagement by supporting innovative ideas, research and collaborations to thrust new technologies for building faster, more secure and efficient networks for the advancement of the society.

Our continuous efforts to enhance the applications, protocols and services of networks are key areas to be presented in this conference.  Through these areas, we are able to explore and debate on stimulating ways to enhance the delivery of digital content to end users.  We hope these ideas will empower Malaysia to extend its goal towards becoming a tech-savvy and developed nation by 2020.

I would like to congratulate the technical committee and organizing committee for their efforts and thank them sincerely for making this conference a success. We appreciate their hard work and time that they have spent in preparing for this event.   We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of UUM CAS, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia, the Ministry of Higher Education and our sponsors for their help and support

To the all participants, I hope you will enjoy yourself here in the spirit of sharing and challenging the boundaries of knowledge.
